170,000 miles and rising fast

HAL went over the 170,000 mile threshold on Friday August 20th just north of Traverse City, Michigan. It was a memorable trip with Heather...a ride that saw us pay $8 to visit a Michigan State Park for 5 minutes (never got out of the car because lightning was too bad) and took us straight through the heart of a very large and scary thunderstorm coming off of Lake Michigan.

HAL insisted we drive through... Heather thought we should stop. Jim sided with HAL... yeah, Jim still has some learning to do :)

We all came through safe and enjoyed the weekend despite our run-in. HAL is a champ...got new rear brake pad and rotors for the first time this week and has already shot past 171,000. At 175,000 - HAL will have put 40,000 miles on his new tires - purchased on December 31, 2009.

As always... here are some fun mileage facts:

Last 5,000 miles took 28 days or about 178.5 miles/day
Last 35,000 miles took 236 days or about 148.3 miles/day (yearly pace of 54,100)

Since 100,000 Miles on 2/18/2009 - 549 days or about 127.5 miles/day
First 100,000 Miles (4/23/2003-2/18/2009) took 2130 days or about 47 miles/day

At the pace of 125 miles/day... HAL should reach 200,000 miles in about 240 days or toward the end of April 2011. If I keep a 145 mile per day pace from here on out...200,000 would be reached in the latter half of March.
